The flankers are designed to come around the front-line units and engage the enemy from the sides. ![]() That system works exactly the same here but you can now add two other units as flankers. You could improve the company's sight range by switching out the cleric for a scout, or add offensive spell-casting by dumping the ranger and adding a mage. Since there were multiple races and loads of units for each there was a nearly endless variety of combinations. What you're left with is a ranged unit that heals itself, deals greater damage to structures and ignores terrain-based movement penalties. ![]() Since these companies were led and fought as a single unit, you had the chance to custom-tailor your armies.įor instance, you could include archers as the core unit, choose a cleric and an engineer as the two support units, and a ranger hero as the leader. Two other support slots could be filled with other, different units, while a captain slot offered the chance to add a hero to the mix. Four units of the same type constituted the core, front-line troops. In the previous game, you custom-built all your companies from the units available to you. The first game's biggest departure from the traditional RTS approach was the company command system so it's no surprise that that feature has been preserved for the sequel. They recently stopped in to show off a build and answer our questions. ![]() Though we've seen the title under the Atari umbrella, it's now Gathering who will be publishing the game when the time comes. Now TimeGate is working on the third game in the series, Kohan II. The sequel Ahriman's Gift didn't do much to change their level of interest but fans of the series happily welcomed the new content. Unfortunately, the 2D presentation and the unfamiliar mythological background meant fewer gamers took much notice of this game. The original Kohan did away with the conventions that made the other games so, well, conventional, and offered instead some compelling new ideas for city development, resource management and unit creation. Their first game made me want to kiss them on the mouth. ![]()
